Denise S. Rollings, AAS, CVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Denise received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Madison Area Technical College in 2001, graduating with honors. She was subsequently licensed as a Veterinary Technician after passing the National Veterinary Technician Examination. After graduation, Denise continued employment at a general practice in West Allis, Wisconsin where she had worked during high school and throughout veterinary technician school, and soon developed her passion for veterinary dentistry. In 2003, Denise joined the team at a small animal practice in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and quickly became the Primary Dental and Surgery Technician, vastly improving the quality of veterinary dentistry, anesthesia and pain management. During this time, she also worked at an emergency and specialty hospital as an emergency room technician and veterinary dental technician to the veterinary dentist on staff. In the spring of 2014, Denise moved from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Bonita Springs, Florida to work at Pet Dental Center, as the Lead Dental Technician and Continuing Education Director. Also in 2014, she became one of the few Veterinary Technician Specialists in Dentistry through the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians. In 2017 Denise founded Pet Dental Education, LLC, offering onsite training in various aspects of veterinary dentistry for veterinary hospitals nationwide as well as working as a dental educator for several companies and conferences. Following her passion for teaching and inspiring others, Denise is now a full-time educator for Pet Dental Education, LLC. Denise has lectured and taught wet labs internationally on topics ranging from veterinary dentistry for the technician and veterinarian, to improving standards of dental programs at individual animal hospitals.
Denise resides in Fort Myers, Florida with her husband and fur babies. She dedicates her time to improving oral care to the patients of veterinary hospitals across the country. She has passion for veterinary dentistry and strives to ignite that passion in others. She is a firm believer in improving the quality of our pets’ lives, one tooth at a time. In her free time, Denise enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors and traveling.

Heather Duncan DVM, Diplomate AVDC
Dr. Duncan attended NC State for her undergraduate degree in biological sciences. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University in 2005 and then practiced general medicine in Tampa, FL for 2½ years. While in general practice, she found that she had a special interest in the oral trauma and dental cases and pursued a dental residency. She completed a three-year dental residency program at the Animal Dental Centers of Baltimore and Annapolis, MD and became a board-certified veterinary dentist in 2014. Dr. Duncan joined Upstate Vet in April of 2013.
Her special interests include involved oral surgeries (such as maxillectomies/mandibulectomies); endodontics (root canal therapies, vital pulp therapies); advanced surgical extractions; jaw fracture repairs; periodontal therapies (closed root planing/open root planing and bone grafting); and prosthodontics (composite restorations and placement of crowns). She also loves to share her knowledge of veterinary dentistry by giving lectures throughout the country to veterinary students, veterinary technicians, and other veterinarians.
In her free time, Dr. Duncan enjoys traveling, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, going to the beach, going to the gym, volunteering for the community, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Duncan will be teaching an extractions lab in Asheville, NC (September 21st-22nd) & Columbia, SC (October 12th-13th)!
Jennifer Alterman, DVM, Diplomate AVDC
Dr. Alterman attended the University of Maryland for her undergraduate degree in animal science. She then attended the University of Florida and obtained her DVM in 2009. Following veterinary school Dr. Alterman did a rotating internship at Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington, DC. She went into general practice and emergency medicine for 3 years in Atlanta. During this time she discovered that she had a love of dentistry and the difference it can make in animal’s lives. Dr. Alterman then pursued a residency at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver. She joined BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Salt Lake City in 2016 and obtained her board certification in 2019.
Dr. Alterman’s special interests include oncologic surgery, advanced periodontal therapies, orthodontics, and endodontics. She especially loves teaching and educating veterinarians, technicians, and owners.
Outside of work Dr. Alterman enjoys all things outdoors. She and her husband enjoy camping, hiking, backpacking, and skiing. Their life dream is to visit all of our great national parks.

Sharon Hoffman, DVM, Diplomate AVDC
Dr. Sharon Hoffman received her veterinary degree from Louisiana State University. She practiced small animal primary care in the Carolinas and Ohio for many years and became Board Certified in Veterinary Dentistry in 2005. Dr. Hoffman is an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Florida and was the owner of North Florida Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery in Jacksonville, Florida. She was awarded the Gold Star award for outstanding contributions to veterinary medicine in Florida.
Dr. Hoffman particularly enjoys teaching veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners about oral and dental health. She has taught locally, nationally, and internationally. She has authored several articles on dentistry in publications veterinarians, pet owners and the veterinary staff.
Her particular interest is dental disease in captive orcas. Some of her patients have included dolphins, a whale, and a sea lion. When she is not relieving oral pain in her patients, you may find her scuba diving in warm water somewhere around the world, behind her camera, or on her yoga mat.
Dr. Hoffman will be instructing the Jacksonville, FL extraction labs on November 23rd-24th!
